Peter Gross

Peter Gross was born in Queens, NY, and was raised on diet of doo-wop, soul, and early Rock-n-Roll, He received his first guitar at 5yrs old, began piano lessons at 8, played trumpet, baritone horn, and drums, before beginning formal guitar instruction at 13.

Peter's playing is guided by the love of improvisation and interplay between musicians. Musical influences include Jerry Garcia, John Lennon and George Harrison, David Gilmour of Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Hazel, Trey Anastasio, Carlos Santana, Steve Howe, and John Scofield, James Brown, Frank Zappa, Traffic, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, The Beastie Boys, and Classical music of India, and the West.

Over the years, his projects have included the Heavy Metal group Powersurge, the blues based band, Dyer Vine, the Ashland, Oregon, groove outfit, Spiral, with percussionist Cedar Miller, who has toured the west coast with Lost at Last and Scott Huckabay, and the psychedelic songwriting and jamming of Ashland based Earwhig.

In 2001 Peter toured the West coast as a member of the Alice DiMicele Band. The band shared stages with the likes of The David Grisman Quintet, The Zen Tricksters, Michael Franti and Carl Young of Spearhead, Ulali, Mingus Amongus, and performed at the 2001 Spring Strawberry Music Festival, the Main stage at the Oregon Country Fair, the Trinity Tribal Stomp, and the 2001 Ashland Country Fair.

In 2002, in San Francisco, CA, Peter and Christian Runge have formed Syncrosystem, with the help of Chris Horgan on drums, Dave Smith on upright bass, and Kia Afcari and Julian Gerstin on percussion.

Peter is presently living, practicing massage, and pretty much all around is having a damn good time in, San Francisco, CA.
