Kiarash Afcari

Kiarash Afcari, AKA 'Kia', loves, no really, I mean really loves music. He first remembers hearing the bump-ba-dum-bump of his mother's heart.

He has studied Afro-Cuban folkloric music, and drumming from Senegal, Mali, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Brazil and Ghana. Kia has carried out ethnomusicological research on the court music of the Ashanti of Ghana. He has played with salsa, merengue, acid-jazz, folk, funk and world music groups. He loves pan-seared ahi in a wasabi cream sauce.

Kia's musical influences include Jesus Diaz, Giovanni Hidalgo, Saint John Coltrane, the late-great Conjunto Cespedes, Baaba Maal, Ernest Ranglin, Billie Holliday, Jaun Luis Guerra, Loketo, D'Angelo, Antonio Carlos Jobim, and many others. Kia is very excited about his new tama talking drum from Senegal. He secretly wants to sing in a musical production of Grease.

If you don't shake your ass he might refuse to play....
